Blackheath, London

The project was the demolition of an existing house and the construction of a new 450m2 house complete with basement, followed by landscaping of the complete plot.
It is located in the Cantor private estate conservation area, close to Blackheath village.
To achieve the clean slim wide span structure, the architect used a cross-lined timber frame for the complete building. This allowed very large and uninterrupted glass walls and screens to all rooms. Construction of the frame was completed in four weeks, allowing follow on trades to start faster than with traditional construction.
The 150mm thick solid timber walls and roof also had very good thermal and acoustic properties. Cantilevered canopies provided to all elevations services including: comfort cooling, full underfloor heating, a building management system, solar panels, rainwater storage, irrigation, security, and intruder alarms.
